Diagnostic Imaging Services
Diagnostic imaging is a science combining advanced technology and
human compassion. The radiographer
performs various radiographic or X-ray examinations on the human body
for use in diagnosing medical problems. The radiographer uses knowledge
of physics, radiographic exposure, human anatomy, physiology and pathology
to create a permanent diagnostic medical image. The radiographer performs
routine and emergency X-ray exams, assists in special radiographic
procedures and performs portable radiography in an operating room
or at the patient’s bedside. Many radiographic procedures require
the use of contrast media, which enables radiographers to study organs
that otherwise may not be seen on a radiograph. The radiographer works
closely with the radiologist, who specializes in interpreting radiographic
images.
